DIGITAL
1998 - 2018
Binary code, html code, Java code...
Tough the lettering of this last artwork recalls the mechanical typewriter, it does belong to an era when the act of writing is moving away from paper. The 2.0 revolution is a theme falls flat from a visual - if not chromatic - point of view: it represents an anthropological involution, or at least an existential discoloration.
The low life, to say it with Arbasino. No human element on sight.
What we see is the behind the scenes, the inside of a new artificial world: the programming code behind the World Wide Web, the circuits inside the plastic box ...
"I HAVE THE SIM CARD, THEREFORE I AM". To be or not to be digital? The sheer physicality of an instrument such as the slicer is covered with immaterial symbols.
Meat and disincarnation, material reality and virtual reality. The digital machine, laid bare, will never have the aesthetic nobility of the expressionist robot in Metropolis, the charm of the "fake Maria" in the Yoshiwara brothel.
Matrix is another film. "The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television".
If it's anywhere then it's nowhere. At least visually speaking. And the colors become holographic too.
Technique:
metallic aluminum, 999 silver leaf inserts, transparent colors on glass windows, holographic metal flakes.
